7 Tips to Book IRCTC Tickets the Moment Booking Opens
Popular routes on peak dates — long weekends, festival season, wedding season — can sell out within seconds of booking opening. The difference between a confirmed seat and a long waitlist often comes down to preparation, not luck. Here's what actually helps.
1. Know the exact opening date, not roughly
"Around two months before" isn't good enough when seats disappear in seconds. Work out the precise date — count back exactly 60 days from your journey date, or use a booking date calculator so there's no room for error.
2. Log in and stay logged in the night before
Session timeouts and last-minute password resets cost precious seconds. Log into your IRCTC account well before 8:00 AM and keep the session active rather than logging in fresh at opening time.
3. Save your passenger details in advance
IRCTC lets you save "Master List" passenger details — names, ages, genders, berth preferences. Fill this in days ahead so you're just selecting names from a list, not typing them out under pressure.
4. Have your payment method ready
